banyak mengalami cedera, sehingga memerlukan tindakan operasi. Enam puluh

ABSTRACT

Background: One of the common injuries is musculoskeletal injury, with the lower
limbs being the most injured body part, requiring surgery. Sixty percent of patients
undergoing surgery will experience severe pain after surgery, therefore prevention
and control of postoperative pain are very important. Some common analgesics
used in postoperative pain management are paracetamol and ketorolac. This study
aims to compare the effectiveness of paracetamol and ketorolac in reducing pain in
patients undergoing lower extremity surgery, using the Numeric Rating Scale
(NRS) as an instrument for assessing pain intensity.
Methods: This study was experimental by comparing NRS scores between groups
of subjects who received 1 g paracetamol and 30 mg ketorolac at 7 observation
times with N1 and N2 measured before surgery, while N3 - N7 were performed
postoperatively. The subjects of this study were patients who underwent orthopedic
surgery of the lower extremities at the NTB Provincial Hospital aged 18 - 75 years
and ASA physical status I and II determined by nonprobability sampling using
purposive sampling. NRS data were then analysed using independent sample t-test
and Mann-Whitney U-test based on data normality and homogeneity.
Results: There was a significant difference in NRS scores between the groups of
subjects receiving paracetamol and ketorolac analgesics at observation time N5 (p
= 0.07), N6 (p = 0.009), N7 (p = 0.018), total average postoperatively (p = 0.001),
with the NRS of the ketorolac group being lower. Age, gender, and type of fracture
were found to have no significant effect on the NRS score, while the BMI factor
was found to significantly affect the NRS score (p = 0.02).
Conclusion: There was a significant difference in effectiveness in managing
postoperative pain between ketorolac and paracetamol. The ketorolac group
showed a smaller average NRS score postoperatively. In contrast, no significant
difference in effectiveness was found before surgery.
