Katarak merupakan penyebab kebutaan paling tinggi. Sekitar 200.000 anak
di seluruh dunia diperkirakan mengalami kebutaan akibat katarak. Tingginya
riwayat merokok, 22,5% memiliki riwayat trauma, 12,5% mengonsumsi steroid,
12,5% memiliki riwayat keturunan katarak, 7,5% memiliki riwayat hipertensi, dan
2,5% memiliki riwayat diabetes melitus.
paparan sinar UV, merokok, trauma, faktor herediter, penggunaan kortikosteroid,
faktor risiko utama katarak juvenil.

Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness. Around 200,000 children worldwide
are estimated to be blind due to cataracts. The high incidence of cataracts in the
age of 1-40 years makes researchers interested in identifying risk factors for
juvenile cataracts and the highest risk factors in NTB Eye Hospital for the period
January-December 2024. This research method used a cross-sectional design with
medical record data from NTB Eye Hospital for the period January-December 2024
for the diagnosis of juvenile cataract. Data analysis used in this study was
quantitative descriptive analysis using frequency tables. The results of data
collection from 40 patients who met the inclusion criteria showed that 37.5% had a
history of smoking, 22.5% had a history of trauma, 12.5% took steroids, 12.5% had
a hereditary history of cataracts, 7.5% had a history of hypertension, and 2.5% had
a history of diabetes mellitus. The conclusion of this study is that the risk factors
for cataracts found in NTB Eye Hospital for the period January-December 2024
include UV exposure, smoking, trauma, hereditary factors, corticosteroid use,
hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. The highest risk factor in NTB Eye Hospital
was UV exposure 42.5%, followed by smoking 37.5%, trauma 22.5%, corticosteroid
use 12.5%, hereditary factors 12.5%, hypertension 7.5%, and diabetes mellitus
2.5%. Based on the age group division, the 31-40 years age group was dominated
by UV exposure as the main risk factor.
