CORRELATION BETWEEN COLOR GRADATION AND AGE OF
LACERATIONS IN RAPE VICTIMS AT MATARAM BHAYANGKARA
HOSPITAL

Background: Sexual violence is an act that attacks the body and reproductive
functions of a person by force, causing physical, psychological, and social
suffering. Data show a significant increase in cases of sexual violence in Indonesia,
including in West Nusa Tenggara, with sexual intercourse involving children being
the most common type. Lacerations are frequently found in such cases and are
examined through forensic medical investigations. This study aims to determine the
correlation between color gradation and the age of lacerations to support the
scientific investigation of cases.
Method: This research is a type of correlational analytical study using a crosssectional method with purposive sampling by taking samples of lacerations from
rape victims, meeting the inclusion criteria. The data used were secondary data from
Visum et Repertum and Medical Records of Sexual Violence Victims at
Bhayangkara Hospital Mataram. Data were presented in tabular form and analyzed.
The sample population comprised victims from January 2019 to December 2024.
Result : Research on 32 rape victims with hymenal tears at Bhayangkara Hospital
Mataram during the 2020?2025 period showed that the highest number of cases
occurred in 2024 (31.5%). The victims' characteristics were dominated by adults
(87.5%) and all were female. The most frequently observed tear color grading was
pale (65.6%), while the age distribution of the tears was mainly in the range of 0?3
days and over 7 days, each accounting for 46.9%. Analysis using Spearman's test
showed a strong and significant positive correlation between color grading and tear
age (r = 0.680; p = 0.000), indicating that the longer the tear is present, the paler the
color tends to be.
Conclusion : There is a strong and significant positive correlation between color
grading and the age of laceration wounds in rape victims at Bhayangkara Hospital
Mataram, where the older the wound, the paler the color tends to be.
