VULGARIS PADA MAHASISWA FAKULTAS KEDOKTERAN
UNIVERSITAS MATARAM

AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MATARAM

Background: Sleep is one of the basic human needs. Insufficient sleep will cause
physiological and psychological imbalances, as well as increase the activity of
androgen hormones that play a role in regulating sebum production. This leads to
the occurrence of Acne Vulgaris (AV).
Purpose: This study aims to determine the relationship between sleep quality and
the incidence of acne vulgaris among students at the Faculty of Medicine and Health
Sciences, Mataram University.
Methods: The research design is observational analytics with a cross-sectional
method. The data collection method is total sampling. The research instruments are
the PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) questionnaire and Lehmann's criteria.
Data analysis uses the Spearman rank test.
Results: From the results of data analysis of 58 respondents, there was no
relationship between sleep quality and the incidence of acne vulgaris among
students of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) at Mataram
University, with a p-value > 0.05 in the positive direction and a very weak
correlation strength.
Conslusion: There is no relationship between sleep quality and the incidence of
acne vulgaris, whether mild, moderate, or severe, among students at the Faculty of
Medicine, Health Sciences, Mataram University. For further research, it is
recommended that researchers use longitudinal or cohort methods to determine the
causal relationship between sleep quality and the incidence of acne vulgaris more
accurately.
