1,6%, sehingga berpotensi dikembangkan menjadi produk kosmetik tabir surya.
Formula optimum memiliki pH 7,93?0,02, viskositas 7.367?153 cP, daya lekat

ABSTRACT
Extract of Sargassum sp. contains high levels of phenolic compounds with
strong antioxidant activity and has been reported to exhibit an ultra-category SPF
value at a concentration of 1.6%, indicating its potential for development into a
sunscreen cosmetic product. To enhance the contact time during application, it
needs to be formulated into a cream dosage form. One of the key components in the
cream formula is the emulsifier. A combination of stearic acid and triethanolamine
was selected due to its ability to produce desirable physical properties. The aim of
this study was to optimize the cream formula of Sargassum sp. extract by varying
the concentrations of stearic acid and triethanolamine as emulsifiers. The extraction
of Sargassum sp. was carried out using the maceration method with 96% ethanol,
followed by the identification of phenolic compounds. Optimization of the
Sargassum sp. extract cream formulation was performed using the Simplex Lattice
Design method with Design Expert software. Eight formulas with varying
emulsifier concentrations were evaluated for response parameters, including pH,
viscosity, spreadability, and adhesion. These response values were used to
determine the optimum formula, which was then verified using a one-sample t-test.
The obtained extract had a yield of 7.37% and tested positive for phenolic
compounds. Optimization results indicated that the optimum cream formulation
contained 15% stearic acid and 4% triethanolamine. The optimum formula
exhibited a pH of 7.93 ? 0.02, viscosity of 7,367 ? 153 cP, adhesion of 2.06 ? 0.01
seconds, and spreadability of 6.9 ? 0.04 cm. Verification using a one-sample t-test
showed no significant difference between predicted and experimental values (p >
0.05). Thus, the optimum Sargassum sp. extract cream formulation meets the
requirements for acceptable physical properties of a cream.
